“Botanic Gardens, Singapore” – I guess I was more keen on visiting this place than any other, specially the orchid garden in its premises always appealed to me. Hence, after lot of speculations decided to pay a solo visit to see and admire the orchids. The Gardens has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) on 4 July 2015. The Gardens is the first and only tropical botanic garden on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
The orchid garden is a good 800m walk from the MRT station and was not an easy affair for me as I had hurt my leg a couple of days back. But it was worth every bit of it. I passed by all the other landscaped gardens, including the rain forest and headed straight to the Orchid Gardens. The entrance fees to the Garden is 5 SGD and you will not regret it. The National Orchid Garden is located on the highest hill in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Three hectares of carefully landscaped slopes provides the visitors a glance of both hybrid and indigenous orchids. As per the official website, the Orchid Garden boasts of 1000 species of orchids and 2000 hybrids. I personally liked the rain forest replica created within the gardens. It was very tastefully landscaped and in addition to the orchids also had a beautiful waterfall, complimenting the rain forest look.
